Why is it that whenever people are discussing politics, most can't help themselves but to turn into condescending, ego-centric, arrogant prudes? With most issues that come up in life, i.e. miscommunications between coworkers, disagreements between partners, parents/child conflict etc., the majority of people are able to have conversations that are based on respect for the other person and a willingness to at least try to see the situation from the other person's point of view. Which begs the question, why must communication skills deteriorate into, what I can only call, perjorative self-centered, fear-based, childish banter when the topic of conversation delves into that of a political nature?
My guess: fear. In my opinion, letting fear control ones life is a sure-fire way to destroy relationships, personal peace, and obliterate the ability to think clearly. I agree that political issues are incredibly important, I have no desire to down play that. My issue is with the way the majority of people are coping with the stress of the current economic and political situations. Stop it!
So....from one friend to all of you....CHILL OUT and play nice :)
